Overcast skies could not deter the enthusiasm and curiosity of Hays County Master Naturalists and their friends and families, for the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024! Gathered in a far west corner of Hays County, Texas, we eagerly awaited a break in the clouds for a peek at the elusive dance between Sun and Moon.

Eclipse art lined the firepit.

Assorted ISO-approved eyeware was free to all.

With squeals of delight, we donned our ISO-approved fashionable eyewear to catch a glimpse of the progression to totality.

Sharon and Robert Moore await totality.

Keith Davis, Mary O’Hara, and Robert Fisher toast the occasion.

The newly constructed Burning M Bar was well christened with the ambiance of local musician Keith Davis' strumming and singing.

Mary shared her birthday cake.

Party watchers were mesmerized.

As darkness ensued, birds and bees hushed, solar-powered lights turned on, eeriness slipped over the party, and we gaped in silent awe.

Totality!

Then in just a few blinks, the light returned, and we resumed feasting on picnic fare and birthday cake.

I would venture to say that all had an astronomical good time!

The cake by a beloved San Marcos bakery was perfect for the occasion.
